Radio Toco 106.7FM

24/7 Online Community Station

About Us

Radio Toco is more than a radio station - it’s the heartbeat of the communities from Matura to Matelot. As Trinidad & Tobago’s first true community radio project, we exist to amplify local voices, celebrate our culture and champion the sustainable development of our region.

Rooted in the rich traditions of the northeast, Radio Toco brings together music, storytelling, environmental awareness and community pride. Our programming highlights the issues that matter most to our people - from protecting our forests, rivers and coastlines to preserving the cultural heritage that makes this region unlike any other.

We shine a spotlight on the environmental challenges facing northeastern Trinidad, giving residents a platform to speak out on development activities that threaten our biodiversity and way of life. Our focus aligns with global priorities for protecting ecosystems and reducing pollution in rivers and coastal waters, ensuring that our natural treasures remain vibrant for generations to come.

Radio Toco also connects communities across the islands. Through partnerships like the Tobago Community Water Watch Network Project, we share knowledge, research and real-world solutions that empower residents in both northeastern Trinidad and southwestern Tobago.

In a media landscape once dominated by colonial systems and centralized broadcasters, Radio Toco stands proudly as a symbol of independence, resilience and community identity. We were built by the people, for the people - and every day, we continue to give our region the voice it has always deserved.

Radio Toco: Where community, culture and the rhythm of the coast come alive.

From soca and calypso to reggae, gospel and talk shows, we celebrate the heartbeat of Toco and the wider Trinidad & Tobago community. Whether you're tuning in from home, on the road, or across the world, Radio Toco keeps you connected 24/7.

Our Vision

To uplift and empower our community through entertainment, education and authentic Caribbean storytelling.

Historical Context of Toco

Remote & isolated: For much of its history, the Toco district remained physically cut off from the rest of Trinidad. Travel was difficult and the region developed a distinct culture shaped by its geographic isolation, as noted in historical reporting from the Trinidad Guardian.

Early connections: Although a roadway and even a small WWII-era airstrip were eventually introduced, Toco's remoteness persisted for decades. Local accounts and community archives highlight how this isolation influenced daily life and slowed access to national services.

While Trinidad & Tobago's radio industry grew from colonial-era systems into a vibrant commercial landscape, Radio Toco carved out a vital and distinctive role. As the country’s first community station, it continues to address the unique needs of the East Coast - connecting isolated communities, preserving local culture and ensuring that Toco's voice is heard. learn more...
